Mahindra closes in on Tata in EV race; Hyundai defies growth trend
New Delhi, July 1 -- Mahindra is steadily narrowing the gap with Tata Motors in India's electric passenger vehicle market, even as Tata continues to hold a commanding lead, according to Vahan registration data for the first quarter of FY27 (April 2026 to June 2026) released today.
The data shows that Mahindra's electric vehicle (EV) registrations nearly doubled to 20,112 units in Q1 FY27 from 10,144 units in the same period last year, marking a growth of about 98 per cent.
Tata Motors, meanwhile, retained its position as the country's largest EV maker, with registrations rising to 32,283 units from 15,794 units a year earlier, reflecting a growth of over 104 per cent.
