Kanpur, Nov. 8 -- Three members of a family, a woman, her mother-in-law and her 21-day-old son, died after the roof of their house collapsed in the Panki Padaw area of Kanpur on Sunday morning, police said.

Preliminary investigations suggest the roof, which was of non-permanent construction, likely collapsed due to significant water seepage, the Kanpur West DCP SM Qasimi Abidi said.

Speaking to reporters, he said a rescue operation was immediately launched at the site after the collapse.
