Dublin, July 15 -- Former England batter and ex-Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott has been appointed as a short-term consultant for the Ireland men's team ahead of their five-match ODI series against Afghanistan next month, Cricket Ireland announced on Tuesday (local time).

Trott's appointment comes at a crucial stage for Ireland as they build towards the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in early 2027. The 45-year-old will spend 14 days with the squad, supporting preparations for the series and advising the team during the opening two ODIs against Afghanistan.
