Mumbai, Sept. 17 -- Indian benchmark indices opened flat on Thursday following the US Federal Reserve's interest rate hike. Nifty was holding above 23,200 while Sensex was up around 80 points during the early morning session.

Both benchmark indices began the session with a gap-down opening. Sensex opened at 74,182.62 and was trading at around 74,416.72, up 80.27 points or 0.11 per cent against the previous close of 74,336.45. Likewise, Nifty was trading at around 23,250.85, up 33.25 points or 0.14 per cent against Wednesday's close of 23,217.60 at the time of reporting.

All broad market indices traded in the green. Sectorally, most indices traded in the green while IT, bank, and media traded in the negative zone.
