India's direct tax collections rise 23% to Rs 8.11 lakh crore as non-corporate tax drives growth
New Delhi, Aug. 11 -- India's net direct tax collections rose 23.09 per cent year-on-year to Rs 8.11 lakh crore as of August 10, 2026, from Rs 6.59 lakh crore in the corresponding period last year, according to data released by the Income Tax Department.
The strong growth in direct tax collections was led by non-corporate taxes, securities transaction tax and corporate tax collections, pointing to a broad-based increase in tax receipts during the ongoing financial year.
Gross direct tax collections stood at Rs 9.55 lakh crore as of August 10, up 19.75 per cent from Rs 7.97 lakh crore recorded in the same period of 2025. After accounting for refunds, net collections stood at Rs 8.11 lakh crore.
