Varanasi, Aug. 16 -- The water level of the Ganga rose at a rate of approximately 6 cm per hour in Varanasi, prompting the district administration to suspend boat operations in the river until further notice.

The water level of the Ganga was recorded at 64.70 metres on Sunday and is continuing to rise rapidly.

In view of the rising water level, the Varanasi Police Administration has issued an advisory suspending all boat operations in the Ganga with immediate effect as a precautionary measure.

The advisory was issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dashashwamedh Area, Kashi Zone, Varanasi, stating that the suspension would remain in force until further notice.
