FM Sithramran says AI researcher's resignation raises questions over AI safety safeguards
Mumbai, Sept. 11 -- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday questioned whether safeguards being developed by frontier artificial intelligence companies are keeping pace with the rapid advancement of the technology, citing the recent resignation of Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon over concerns about the race towards self-improving AI systems.
Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest 2026, Sitharaman said Coxon's resignation had drawn attention because his concerns about AI safety were echoed by senior figures within the frontier AI ecosystem.
"Again, just this week, public attention was drawn across global markets when a researcher resigned from one of the world's leading AI laboratories," she said.
