New Jersey, July 20 -- Argentina President Javier Milei announced that a national holiday will be declared to honour La Albiceleste's FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign, which ended in heartbreak with a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final at New Jersey on Sunday (local time).

Spain edged Argentina 1-0 after extra time, bringing an end to Lionel Messi's title defence and completing an impressive unbeaten campaign in which La Roja conceded just one goal in eight matches.

In a post on X, Javier Milei said a national holiday will be declared for the team's World Cup celebrations, with the date to be decided based on the preference of the players and coaching staff.
