New Delhi, Sept. 1 -- The Delhi government has issued fresh directions to all bus operators in the capital, including buses from other states, to strictly follow passenger safety and operational norms. The Transport Department has put special focus on the safety of women and children and warned that violations will invite action under the law.

All buses must have functional Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTDs), accessible panic buttons, fire extinguishers and first-aid kits. Operators have also been told to park buses only at authorised, secure and well-lit locations during night or idle hours. Curtains and unauthorised films on windows have also been prohibited, with prescribed visibility standards to be maintained.
