Washington, Sept. 12 -- The New Delhi Declaration adopted at the BRICS Summit is a "significant diplomatic achievement" for India, particularly after the grouping struggled to issue a joint statement at the foreign minister-level meeting earlier this year, US South Asia analyst Michael Kugelman said on Saturday.

Speaking on the BRICS Summit 2026 and the New Delhi Declaration, Kugelman said the adoption of a joint declaration by leaders of the BRICS countries marked a major achievement for India, which faced several challenges during its chairship.
