Bengaluru, Sept. 2 -- In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, the Bengaluru police have transferred 31 Bangladeshi nationals, who were found staying illegally in the city, to West Bengal for deportation.

The foreign nationals were detained during special drives conducted across 10 police stations under the Electronic City Division in August.

According to DCP Electronic City, Narayana, all 31 detainees were escorted by a 20-member police team from Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT), Bengaluru, on Monday and taken to Malda Railway Station in West Bengal.

After reaching Malda early Wednesday morning, they were handed over to the local police and lodged at the Karma Tirtha Holding Centre.
