Siliguri, Aug. 22 -- Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday promised a "permanent" political solution to the issues of the hill population in West Bengal soon, under the umbrella of the Constitution of India, as well as adequate funding from the Centre to manage all pending issues.

He also called for the formation of a committee under former Deputy National Security Advisor Pankaj Kumar Singh to finalize the modalities.

Shah made the promise while chairing a meeting held in Siliguri in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, along with various stakeholders and representatives of the hill areas of the state. Senior representatives of the Central and state governments were also present.
