Bengaluru, Aug. 14 -- The Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, demanded that Chief Minister DK Shivakumar take action against state minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, who stated that he would not be able to participate in the Independence Day celebrations.

Speaking to reporters, he said, "Saturday is a sacred day for the country. We gained independence because of the sacrifices and martyrdom of lakhs of freedom fighters. We are all living peacefully and happily in a democracy. However, regarding the Independence Day celebrations in Vijayanagara district, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan has written a letter to the Chief Minister."
