Nagpur, Sept. 9 -- Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday welcomed the FIR registered by Nainital Police in connection with the 'purification' of Haldwani's Ramlila Maidan after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's rally.

Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Raut stated, "This is a good thing. I had heard that these people were making Rahul Gandhi the accused. If, with whatever pressure the public has built, an FIR has been registered against whoever has done this work of social disruption, then it is good."

The FIR was registered at Haldwani Kotwali on a complaint by Congress worker Anju under Sections 196 and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(1)(R) of the SC/ST Act.
