New Delhi, May 24 -- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday noted that the ideals of democracy come naturally to the US and India.

Jaishankar, while giving remarks at the US Embassy's National Day reception, said that the Declaration of Independence articulated ideas that shaped the modern world and influenced democratic movements and freedom struggles elsewhere.

"It's a great pleasure to join you all at this celebration of the 250th year of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. Our felicitations to Secretary Rubio and to the Ambassador, and through them to the Trump administration and the American people," he said.
