Hyderabad, Sept. 15 -- BJP MP K Laxman on Tuesday hit back at AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi over his remarks on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), accusing him of "communalising" the issue and saying the BJP-led government's measure is aimed at addressing discrimination, not targeting Muslims.

Responding to Owaisi's claim that the BJP government wants to introduce the UCC specifically to target Muslims, Laxman said the UCC is not directed against any particular community but is a measure against discrimination.

He questioned Owaisi's attempt to link the UCC with the Muslim community and said the concept advocated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Modi government is based on equal citizenship, equal rights and equal respect.
