New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- For decades, Indian hockey stood as the very definition of excellence on the global stage. With a proud haul of 13 Olympic medals--eight of them Gold, a Silver, and four Bronze--India established itself as the sport's ultimate powerhouse. Few have had a closer view of this golden era than MM Somaya, who represented India in three consecutive Olympic Games -- 1980, 1984, and 1988.

A member of the gold medal-winning team at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, Somaya also had the honour of captaining India at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, as per a press release from Hockey India.
