Gwalior, July 25 -- Opposition leaders on Saturday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with Congress leaders targeting the government over its handling of the education system and alleged irregularities in competitive examinations.

Congress MP Digvijaya Singh described Pradhan's resignation as a "victory for democracy" and alleged corruption and mismanagement in the education sector.

Speaking to reporters, Singh said, "This is a victory for democracy. I served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education.
