New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday asserted that India's commitment to peace and non-violence should not be mistaken for weakness.

Emphasising that safeguarding the country's security, sovereignty, and honour remains the government's foremost responsibility, Singh said India's culture of peace goes hand in hand with its resolve to defend national interests.

Singh was speaking at the "Veeroday" Rashtra Prahari samman ceremony at Delhi University.

"No one should make the mistake of considering the value of non-violence as our weakness. Non-violence and peace are our culture. But protecting the nation's security, sovereignty, and honor is our duty," he said.
