New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- The 'Kanda Express' carrying a consignment of onions from Maharashtra arrived at Adarsh Nagar Railway Station in Delhi on Friday, as the Central government began retailing onions in the national capital at a subsidised price of Rs 35 per kilogram.

The arrival of the train comes after farmers in Maharashtra on Wednesday stopped the 'Kanda Express' at Lasalgaon Station in Nashik, alleging that poor-quality and rotten onions were being loaded instead of the quality produce procured from them.

The move comes amid concerns over rising onion prices, with retail inflation increasing to 4.45 per cent in July from 4.38 per cent in June, driven mainly by higher food prices, including onions, ginger and garlic, according to d...
