Jakarta, Jan. 14 -- Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus emphasized that village development is a benchmark of a country's progress and plays a crucial role in determining the direction of national development.

"This means Indonesia will progress if its villages progress," Wiyagus said in a statement here on Wednesday.

He made the remarks after inaugurating the Outstanding Village Workshop at Pendopo Gedhe, Boyolali District, Central Java.

Wiyagus added that villages are at the forefront of public services while also serving as the main drivers of national development based on regional potential. Therefore, the advancement of villages is considered highly crucial.
