Jakarta, June 21 -- The Tourism Ministry has designated Banyuwangi in East Java as a pilot site for the Clean Tourism Movement (GWB), recognizing the local government's consistent application of community-based environmental management to promote tourism.

"Banyuwangi was chosen as the pilot site for its success in building collaboration to promote tourism," Deputy for Destination Development and Infrastructure at the Ministry of Tourism, Hariyanto, noted as quoted in the ministry's statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Banyuwangi is regarded as having implemented best practices in waste management and as a model for socio-ecological transformation within the tourism sector.
