Jakarta, Sept. 24 -- Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi stressed the importance of sign language access in upholding the rights and protecting children with disabilities.

"Sign language enables individuals to build relationships, access information, learn, express themselves, voice opinions, make decisions on their own lives, and participate in social life. For deaf children, access to communication is not merely a technical issue but a fundamental part of fulfilling children's rights," she said in a statement on Thursday.

The minister made the statement during the 2026 International Day of Sign Languages Campaign.
