Jakarta, April 24 -- Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said he believes the weakening rupiah exchange rate does not reflect Indonesia's deteriorating economic fundamentals.
In fact, the domestic economy remains relatively strong compared to other countries in the region, he claimed.
"But for me, this is not a sign of deterioration or triggered by a worsening domestic economy. Compared to other countries, we are still strong. Even compared to Malaysia, Thailand, and others, we are still strong," he said at a media briefing in Jakarta on Friday.
He explained that the rupiah's weakening is largely influenced by global factors and market expectations.
