Batam, July 14 -- The Riau Islands Regional Police's Water and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolairud) arrested a group of robbers targeting foreign cargo ships passing through the region's border waters since 2017.

Riau Islands Regional Police's Water Police Director, Senior Commissioner Handono Subiakto, stated at the Riau Islands Regional Police Headquarters in Batam City on Monday that authorities have arrested 11 suspects and are pursuing three other pirate groups.

"This disclosure stems from a report we received regarding a theft involving a Danish-flagged foreign vessel named Torm Elizabeth," Subiakto remarked.

He explained that the incident took place around the Nipah Strait and Philip Strait in Karimun District.
