Jakarta, Aug. 19 -- Indonesia's construction sector has absorbed more than 8.7 million workers, representing 5.97 percent of the country's total employed population, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

"Based on the February 2025 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), the construction sector employed over 8.7 million people, or roughly 5.97% of Indonesia's workforce," said BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She noted that the sector also made a substantial contribution to the national economy in Q2 2025, accounting for 9.48 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), making it the fourth-largest contributor after manufacturing, agriculture, and trade.
