Indonesia, July 27 -- The Indonesian Ministry of Forestry is strengthening forest and land fire preparedness in South Kalimantan as the dry season raises the risk of fires.

The effort was reinforced at the 2026 South Kalimantan Forest and Land Fire Control Coordination Meeting in Banjarbaru on Monday.

South Kalimantan Forestry Office Head Fathimatuzzahra said preventing fires from escalating into disasters requires cooperation among stakeholders to protect the environment, public health and economic activity.

The office outlined several preparedness measures for the 2026 fiscal year, including assessing equipment and personnel readiness and mapping fire-prone areas.
