"A police force viewed positively by the majority of the public can be an effective social glue, especially amidst political dynamics often marked by tension and sharp differences of opinion between the government and critical groups in society," she said in a statement on Sunday.

Her remarks came in response to a Kompas survey showing public trust in the Indonesian National Police (Polri) at 82.4 percent, with 80.6 percent of respondents assessing that Polri's performance is improving.
