Jakarta, Feb. 13 -- President Prabowo Subianto revealed the government's target to modernize and empower at least 1,000 coastal villages under the Red and White Fishing Villages program across Indonesia this year.

"Our target is to develop 1,000 fishing villages in 2026, with a broader goal of 5,000 villages by 2029," he remarked at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026 event in Jakarta on Friday.

Prabowo emphasized that since the country's founding, his administration is the first to direct special attention to fishermen and coastal communities as part of efforts to strengthen the marine sector.
