Jakarta, Aug. 31 -- President Prabowo Subianto urged the public to remain calm, protect their families, and trust the government amid recent demonstrations.

Speaking at the Merdeka Palace on Sunday, he said the government, together with all political parties, both in and out of government, is committed to addressing the people's aspirations.

"Let us remind each other and our families not to engage in activities that harm the public interest," he said during a joint statement with political party chairmen and the leaders of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the House of Representatives (DPR).

He called on the public to trust the government in fulfilling citizens' expectations and urged everyone to remain calm.
