Jakarta, Sept. 29 -- Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the presence of police personnel during public demonstrations is not intended to restrict freedom of expression, but to ensure that such activities proceed safely.

"Spaces of democracy must remain alive, but they should not be exploited in ways that hinder national progress," the police chief said during a virtual address at a public dialogue held at the Police Science College (PTIK) Stadium here on Monday.

He explained that in peaceful protests, the police prioritize service and adopt a humanistic security approach.
