Police probe abuse of Indonesian by illegal tin syndicate in Malaysia
Jakarta, May 18 -- Indonesian police are investigating a suspected case of abuse against an Indonesian national by members of an illegal tin mining syndicate in Malaysia, while efforts are underway to repatriate the victim.
Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, Director for Particular Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Agency, stated on Sunday that "the Directorate for Particular Crimes is coordinating the evacuation of the individual with the International Relations Division and the police attache at the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia."
In a written statement, Irhamni explained that the case began after the police attache in Malaysia received a report on May 16, 2026, regarding alleged abuse and confinement of an Indonesian citizen.
