Jakarta, Oct. 1 -- Pancasila Sanctity Day, marked annually on Oct. 1, should be seen not merely as a ceremony but as a moment to strengthen national unity, Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Johan Rosihan said on Wednesday.

He stressed that the commemoration is a reminder that the values of Pancasila, Indonesia's state ideology, have been tested by history and remain the foundation of the nation.

"Amid today's ideological and global challenges, we must reaffirm our national commitment based on Pancasila," Rosihan said in a statement.

He said the historical events that gave rise to Pancasila Sanctity Day proved that the ideology is more than a normative text, but one defended with courage and loyalty.
