Makassar, Aug. 16 -- Around 620 climbers celebrated the 80th anniversary of Indonesia's independence by marching with the national Red and White flag to the summit of Mount Bawakaraeng, South Sulawesi, escorted by rescuers.
To monitor this event, the Makassar Office of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) deployed hundreds of personnel and set up a main command post in Lembanna, Gowa District.
As of 8:00 p.m. local time, the Tasoso trail saw the highest number of climbers at 330, Head of the agency's Operations and Preparedness Unit Andi Sultan said here Friday.
The Bulu Ballea trail saw 150 climbers, followed by Lembanna with 140, while numbers on the Panaikang trail were still being verified, he said.
