Jakarta, Aug. 29 -- The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the death toll from the 7.7-magnitude earthquake on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), remained at 111 as of Friday afternoon, while thousands of aftershocks continued to rattle the area.

The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Berton SP Panjaitan, said at a press conference on Friday that thousands of aftershocks had been recorded following the main earthquake on August 15, and were expected to persist for another month.

"To date, after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on August 15, 2026, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded 8,794 aftershocks," he noted.
