Mount Picung's wildfire extinguished, Indonesia's BNPB says
Jakarta, Aug. 12 -- A wildfire that burned three hectares of dry grassland on Mount Picung's hills in West Java's Cianjur District has been extinguished and is under control, Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said.
BNPB's acting Head of Disaster Data, Information and Communications Dodi Yuleova said here Wednesday that the fire spread rapidly through dry alang-alang grasslands amid strong winds.
"The fire occurred in the Mount Picung hills, specifically on grassland in Cikondang Village, Cibeber Subistrict," Dodi said.
The cause remained unknown after the fire was detected at about 5:30 p.m. local time on Monday (Aug. 10), quickly spreading across three hectares of hillside.
