Jakarta, Sept. 22 -- The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) lowered the activity level of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait from Level III (Alert) to Level II (Warning) on Monday evening (Sept 21).

The Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, explained the status downgrade was based on a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of declining volcanic activity and deformation data indicating deflation.

Previously, the activity level of this Type-A active volcano had been raised to Level III (Alert) on July 2, 2026, due to increased seismicity and deformation. During that period, Mount Anak Krakatau recorded 224 eruptions through September 3, 2026.
