Jakarta, Sept. 30 -- Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs has allocated disaster relief funds worth Rp65.2 billion (US$3.6 million) to support the recovery of flood-affected Islamic educational institutions in Aceh, including Islamic boarding schools, known domestically as pesantren.

Director General of Pesantren Basnang Said noted that the ministry had distributed the assistance to 956 educational institutions through two schemes: educational operational assistance and building rehabilitation assistance.

"We aim to ensure that educational activities continue uninterrupted and that pesantren can maintain their strategic role in society," he said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
