Jakarta, July 31 -- Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq called for cooperation among all stakeholders to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla) in Jambi, where a peat ecosystem accounts for 10 percent of the country's fire incidents.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, the environment minister and head of the Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) reported that forest and land fires in Jambi Province had affected 421.77 hectares from January 1 to July 28, 2025.
"This figure raises concerns for all of us regarding the environmental conditions in Jambi, especially in the highly vulnerable peat areas," Nurofiq remarked.
