Padang, W Sumatra, Oct. 8 -- West Sumatra's Immigration Office revealed on Wednesday that Malaysian national Nur Amira can only obtain Indonesian citizenship through marriage to an Indonesian and a formal citizenship application.

Head of West Sumatra Immigration, Nurudin, said citizenship requires fulfilling several conditions, including marriage to an Indonesian and applying under Article 19 of Law No. 12 of 2006.

Nur Amira is currently detained at the Agam Immigration Detention Center for violating Indonesian immigration laws. Authorities are coordinating with the Malaysian Consulate for her deportation.

Her case is complicated by her 15-year-old daughter, Zahira, born from her 2009 marriage to an Indonesian citizen from Payakumbuh. ...
