Jakarta, Sept. 17 -- The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture says a life-course approach is needed to address Indonesia's aging population.

"A life-course approach is important so that community needs can be interconnected and their benefits felt across generations," the ministry's Deputy for Family and Population Quality Improvement, Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, said here on Thursday.

According to DBS Foundation research titled "Indonesia's Demographic Transition: Building Readiness Today for a Better Tomorrow," a population is considered aging when at least 10 percent of it is aged above 60.

In Indonesia, the elderly population reached 12 percent in 2025 and is projected to exceed 20 percent by 2045.
