Jakarta, Sept. 27 -- The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has suspended an illegal reclamation project involving the construction of a jetty on the coast of Ulu Sawa Village, Laonti Sub-district, Konawe Selatan District, Southeast Sulawesi.
The 2,231-hectare project, owned by PT GMS, was found to be operating without the required Sea Space Utilization Approval (PKKPRL).
Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance (PSDKP) at the ministry, Pung Nugroho Saksono, said here on Saturday that the reclamation activities have been halted until the company secures the necessary permit.
PT GMS stated that the jetty was intended to support nickel mining operations.
