Jumhur Hidayat backs carbon trading collab with village co-ops
Jakarta, Aug. 13 -- Indonesia's Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat has supported carbon trading collaboration with the government's Red and White Village Cooperatives.
The village cooperatives will oversee a wide range of economic activities, turning the movement into a grassroots economic revolution.
"A high-integrity carbon market can only be realised, if the benefits and revenue from carbon credit sales are genuinely felt by the community," Hidayat said here in Jakarta on Thursday.
This was highlighted during the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperative-based environmental protection and management between the Environment Ministry and Cooperatives Ministry.
