Jakarta, Nov. 1 -- A regional lawmaker has urged the Jakarta government to take early measures against potential floods and landslides as the capital faces extreme weather.
In a statement received on Saturday, Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) member Yuke Yurike said that in addition to drainage problems that often cause flooding, landslide-prone areas also need serious attention.
"The condition of large trees in Jakarta must be monitored by the Parks Office. Pruning should be carried out if necessary to prevent trees from falling, especially as strong winds often accompany the rainy season," she said.
Yurike underlined the importance of flood mitigation to minimize the number of affected residents.
