Jakarta Governor urges residents to follow "5M" against volcanic ash
Jakarta, Sept. 6 -- Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung urged residents affected by volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau to follow five protective measures or "5M", including wearing masks, limiting outdoor activities and seeking medical care.
Anung said residents should implement the five measures if volcanic ash begins affecting their areas, according to an official statement issued here Sunday.
The first three measures are wearing masks or other protective equipment outdoors, closing doors, windows and water sources, and limiting outdoor activities during heavy ashfall.
Residents should wet volcanic ash deposits before cleaning them to prevent particles from becoming airborne again, Anung said.
