Jakarta, Dec. 8 -- Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo affirmed that his administration has pursued preventative measures against tidal floods in the capital's northern region since taking office earlier this year.

"In fact, our government has taken preventative measures since the beginning. Under my 10-month leadership so far, the Jakarta government remains committed to prioritizing tidal flood mitigation," he told the press in North Jakarta on Monday.

Pramono made the remarks following tidal floods affecting North Jakarta and the Seribu Islands District. He attributed the disaster to heightened ocean tides caused by the alignment of a full moon with the lunar perigee or the Moon's closest point to Earth.
