Jakarta, Oct. 1 -- Indonesian lawmakers approved Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new national police chief on Thursday, succeeding General Listyo Sigit Prabowo following a parliamentary confirmation hearing.

Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR-RI), which oversees legal affairs, unanimously endorsed President Prabowo Subianto's nomination following approval from all political party factions, the House Ethics Council, and House leadership.

"Shall we approve this by acclamation?" Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman asked during the hearing, drawing unanimous consent from lawmakers present.

The decision will now proceed directly to a House plenary session for final endorsement.
