Jakarta, Oct. 11 -- An Indonesian lawmaker has praised President Prabowo Subianto for establishing the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in the Papua region, calling it a breakthrough to improve living standards in the easternmost region.

Indrajaya, a member of the House of Representatives' Commission II, said the initiative would help coordinate and expedite efforts to boost welfare and equality across Papua.

"This committee is expected to serve as a platform for formulating people-oriented policies and fast-tracking equitable development," he said in a press release on Saturday.
