Jakarta, April 27 -- Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung stated that excluding Saturdays from the Free Nutritional Meal (MBG) distribution program could save the government around Rp1 trillion (US$56 million) per day.

According to him, this measure is part of a broader refocusing of government spending to ensure that priority programs are implemented more efficiently and effectively.

"For example, the MBG program, which previously provided free meals on Saturdays, has now been discontinued. That could save Rp1 trillion in a single day," he said on Monday.

Agung noted that the policy is also more practical, as students no longer need to come to school solely to receive meals.
