Magelang, C. Java, May 31 -- Indonesian Buddhists are called to be pioneers of peace by maintaining harmony, controlling their inner selves, and bringing peace to a diverse society.

The message was conveyed by Supriyadi, the Religious Affairs Ministry's director general of Buddhism, during the Vesak Day celebration at the Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Sunday.

He referred to Buddhist teachings which state that happiness can be achieved when humans live without hostility, even in an environment still marked by conflict and differences.

"Truly, we are blessed to live without hostility among those who are hostile," he said.
